This morning (March 12), a ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the nation, was held in the Chinese Association Hall. The event was hosted by the Chinese Association, and Director Ji of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles and his wife led nearly 20 officials to participate. They also remembered the great spirit of the founding father together with Mr. Nie Zeying, Chairman of the Chinese Association, various heads of state, overseas Chinese leaders and community representatives. Representatives from the United College Alumni Association, the Canadian Taiwan Association, the Southern California National Taiwan University Alumni Association, and the Chien-Chien High School Alumni Association also attended.

Although the weather was cloudy and rainy, it could not stop the patriotism of the overseas Chinese. The participants gathered together to hold a memorial ceremony in a solemn atmosphere. The distinguished guests gave speeches one after another, praising the outstanding contribution of the founding father to promoting the democratic revolution. Then the memorial ceremony, the exhibition of the founding father's relics and the offering of flowers to the bronze statue were carried out to express their respect and remembrance for the founding father. After the ceremony, the guests moved to the Golden Dragon Restaurant to enjoy tea and lunch, and communicated with each other in a harmonious atmosphere.

The Southern California NTU Alumni Association is honored to participate in this meaningful commemorative event, and to remember the great work of the founding father and pass on his spirit together with the senior overseas Chinese. This event was a complete success, which not only demonstrated the respect of the overseas Chinese community for the founding father, but also further promoted the connection and cooperation between the associations.

《The Southern California NTU Alumni Association donates $30,000 to help alumni and residents affected by wildfires》

Dear seniors and sisters:

This morning (1/26/2025), the Southern California NTU Alumni Association and the Southern California NTU Alumni Foundation held a donation ceremony at the Qiao Er Center, donating the $30,000 raised to the Los Angeles Emergency Relief Association to assist alumni and residents affected by the wildfires in rebuilding their homes.

This fundraising campaign received a warm response and support in just two weeks. We are grateful to the NTU alumni from all over the United States for their enthusiastic participation. Donations came from Southern California, Northern California, Texas, Nevada and other places. Regardless of the amount, each donation represents the deep friendship and love of the alumni.

Dear Alumni,

There will be a community lecture at 10:30 am on January 26 at the Qiaoer Center. The Southern California NTU Alumni Association and Foundation will also arrange a public ceremony at the lecture to transfer the proceeds from the wildfire relief fundraising to the Los Angeles Emergency Relief Association, hoping that everyone's love can help alumni or community residents affected by the wildfire.

~ Forwarding the care from my alma mater, National Taiwan University~

Happy New Year to all the seniors and sisters from the Southern California NTU Alumni Association, Lu Lin, and others:

The Southern California wildfires have caused serious damage to the region. Our alma mater, President Chen Wen-wen, Chairman Chen Wei-zhao of the Cultural Foundation, and the Alumni Association are very concerned about whether this disaster has affected the alumni. On January 18, the 5th Board of Directors of the 9th session passed a resolution to care about the safety of the alumni and donate US$30,000, which will be remitted after the Chinese New Year. We would like to ask Chairman Lu and the Alumni Association to pay attention to our concern and wish everyone a happy new year and all the best.

Sincerely,

I was so grateful to receive the donation news from my alma mater, National Taiwan University, on the first day of the Chinese New Year!

The Southern California NTU Alumni Association successfully held a Tai Chi lecture

On January 5, 2025, the Southern California NTU Alumni Association held a unique Tai Chi lecture at the Orange County Overseas Chinese Education Center, which attracted 53 alumni and their relatives and friends to attend. Professor Victor Hsieh, a member of the Southern California NTU Alumni Association and chairman of the Southern California Thunder Tai Chi Association, was specially invited to give a lecture. Professor Hsieh graduated from the Department of Economics at National Taiwan University and is currently a retired professor emeritus at California State University, Los Angeles, with rich experience in Tai Chi teaching.

During the lecture, Professor Xie introduced the basic concepts, requirements, misunderstandings, and the benefits of practicing Tai Chi to individuals in an easy-to-understand way. Professor Xie also led everyone to practice the basic movements and basic skills of Tai Chi, including hand and foot postures, and stances, and personally demonstrated the methods and practical applications of several common Tai Chi movements. Finally, Professor Xie led everyone to practice the first few movements of the simplified Tai Chi 24-posture. Through on-site practice, participants not only felt the benefits of Tai Chi for physical and mental balance, but also realized the profound cultural connotations of traditional Tai Chi martial arts.

The atmosphere at the event was enthusiastic. Thanks to the assistance of Director Hsiao of the Orange Overseas Chinese Center, the event was a complete success. Participants praised the two-hour Tai Chi introductory course and said they benefited a lot. They hope to participate in similar courses again in the near future. Many participants are eagerly looking forward to it. Professor Hsiao has planned to hold another advanced Tai Chi lecture in late April.

The Southern California NTU Alumni Association is committed to providing alumni with a diverse platform for activities. In the future, we will continue to promote activities related to physical and mental health and look forward to the participation of more alumni!

Dr. Zhuang Shiyong gave a lecture

Today (February 2, 2025), the Southern California NTU Alumni Association is honored to invite Dr. Zhuang Shiyong, the president of Jingmei Hospital in Taiwan, to give a rich and forward-looking lecture on orthopedics. This event was enthusiastically invited and arranged by Vice President Wang Kangxi. Thanks to all the participating alumni and guests for jointly creating this wonderful medical exchange event!

Dr. Zhuang Shiyong is an authority in Taiwan in the field of minimally invasive surgery for joint and spine surgery. He has more than 30 years of clinical experience and is committed to reducing surgical risks, accelerating patient recovery, and actively promoting the development of precision medicine. In this lecture, Dr. Zhuang introduced the latest technology, actual clinical cases and future development trends of minimally invasive surgery in an easy-to-understand manner, helping participants to fully understand the progress of modern orthopedic medicine and explore how to use precision medicine to improve patients' quality of life.

This lecture attracted more than 50 guests, including NTU alumni, National Defense Medical College alumni and many medical professionals. The medical videos and international cutting-edge research materials carefully prepared by Dr. Zhuang were professional and in-depth, and the participants paid full attention, fearing that they would miss any key information. The Q&A session after the lecture was even more exciting. Participants asked questions and Dr. Zhuang answered them carefully. The discussion was heated and everyone was reluctant to finish.
